| Airbag Side Impact Sensor |
 |
| The side impact sensor, installed in the B-pillar or C-pillar on the side of a vehicle, detects a side collision instantaneously. When the sensor detects the collision, it sends a signal to the airbag ECU which deploys the side airbag or curtain airbag.
DENSO’s side impact sensor is so small, it can be installed on the narrow top portion of the vehicle pillar, resulting in precise detection of a collision even with high-height vehicles, such as an SUVs.
Benefits and Features
- Applicable to any type of vehicle at low cost
- Adjustable sensor sensitivity by controlling the microcomputer’s processing constant.
- Standardized sensor unit – separated from the bracket unit.
- Small size
- One-chip IC integrating microcomputer power circuit and communication circuit.
- High reliability
- Two types of side impact sensors – with and without a mechanical safe sensor. If the side impact sensor is installed in the C-pillar, far from the airbag ECU having a safe sensor, the mechanical safe sensor integrated with the side impact sensor prevents airbag malfunctions due to the electric noise.
Types
- With a mechanical safe sensor
- Without a mechanical safe sensor
