On this page you will find the answers to the most commonly asked questions regarding DENSO navigation systems. If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, please contact us.
1. Where can I buy map updates for my DENSO navigation system?
DENSO is primarily an OE (Original Equipment) supplier, jointly developing and supplying products directly to car manufacturers for factory fitting. Navigation systems are an OE item. In such cases the agreement DENSO has is that the manufacturer takes responsibility for all aftersales service for the vehicle and its individual components. DENSO doesn’t sell directly to the public and therefore we don’t have the resources in place to deal effectively with end consumers.
In the case of navigation this mean the car manufacturer is responsible for organizing and supplying new disc updates. This is often done via a third party company and DENSO is not necessarily informed about this.
You local authorised car dealer should be your first point of contact. If they are unable to help, we advise you to check the car manufacturer's website and contact their Customer Care hotline. As a last resort you could try the website www.navteq.com a company which provides map data disks compatible with most of DENSO’s navigation systems.
2. I have an imported vehicle from North America with a DENSO navigation system. Where can I buy disks for Europe?
Unfortunately the navigation systems fitted in North American vehicles are different to Europe. The US systems work on different map data and functionality which causes an incompatibility between the US and EU systems. For example the US do not have the RDS or TMC functions and therefore the inputs for antenna as well as the hardware itself is different.
In most cases we don’t have any discs with European coverage for such systems. The discs we produce for Europe are only suitable for European Original Equipment fitted navigation systems.
As a last hope, there is an independent supplier who makes generic discs compatible with a wide range of navigation systems. They might be able to help. The website is www.navteq.com.
3. Where can I buy map disks which cover Eastern Europe for my DENSO navigation system?
See answer to Question 1 above.
4. In North America you can watch TV and DVD’s via the DENSO navigation screen in Toyota vehicles. How can I get this in Europe?
Unfortunately this isn’t possible with the systems DENSO supplies in Europe. In North America DENSO supplies Toyota directly. In Europe DENSO works together with a third party, Aisin AW to supply Toyota. On these systems an external video input is not available. Regarding television, Toyota’s display is only developed for NTSC and not the European TV system PAL/SECAM.
5. I have broken a part on my DENSO navigation system. Where can I purchase spare parts? I don’t want to replace the whole unit.
DENSO is primarily an OE (Original Equipment) supplier, jointly developing and supplying products directly to car manufacturers for factory fitting. Navigation systems are an OE item. In such cases the agreement DENSO has is that the manufacturer takes responsibility for replacement parts for the vehicle and it’s individual components. DENSO doesn’t sell directly to the public and therefore we don’t have the resources in place to deal effectively with end consumers.
You should therefore visit your local authorised car dealer for replacement parts. Unfortunately DENSO has no control over the pricing of such parts in these instances.
